Nina Westbury a makeup artist we all want to be friends with!  




1-What's in your makeup bag ? My makeup bag is enormous. I have tried may times to make it smaller but products keep getting stuck in there. I love DIOR STAR, DIOR FLASH as well as Guerlain Lingerie de Peau BB cream and foundation. I also use YSL Touché Elcate as well as Clarins Instant Light concealer. I am alsto turning into a massive fan of the DIOR FIX IT concealers too. My powder is Guerlain Meteorites, my bronzer is Lancôme, DIOR ROSY GLOW is my go to blush. I wear lots of different eyeshadows. I love DIOR ART PEN eye liners and DIOR IT Lash Mascara as well as CLARINS. I generally carry at least 7 lipsticks with me at one time. I am a huge fan of Clinique Lip Pops in the shades Poppy Pop, Nude Pop, Punch Pop and I am totally in love with the new Clarins Joli Rouge lipstick from the fall collection in the shade 742, its so gorgeous I can hardly stand it! 


2-What's your daily fragrance? at the moment I have 3 on the go. My Burberry, Chanel Allure and YSL Black Opium


3-Tell me about your experience as a makeup artist? I am very lucky that I have done so well as a makeup artist. Its a very competitive business. I was am very grateful for every opportunity I’ve ever had. I started at the bottom working on student film in London then I started working for Laura Mercier in Harrods where I built up my speed, gained confidence and experience. Then I went on to doing the makeup at the Wimbledon Tennis championship for 5 years and kept going and going……


4-How do you prepare dry and oily skin for foundation makeup application? Skincare is key. I am not very fond of primers.


5-Do you apply makeup for special events? Name some you have covered? I do. I have worked at Premiers, press launches, celebrity PAs…..


6-What is the difference between applying makeup for a TV shoot and applying makeup for a live appearance party? In the day and age of HD, makeup needs to be flawless for TV. With live appearances you still need to be consistent with your abilities as a makeup artist, meaning that you treat every job to the best of your abilities.


7-What are the biggest challenge makeup artists have to face? Getting your name out there and networking.


8-What advice would you give to a student taking on beauty and what will they expect in the beauty industry ? Its a very tough business. You need to be a people person that isn't a drama queen. You need to get on with people, on a film set you may be working with the same people for three months so its essential that you are friendly. You need to be discreet, never brag or name drop and respect others in the crew. You need to live and breath makeup. I still play with makeup everyday even though I have been doing this for 16 years. The makeup world is constantly evolving so its important that you evolve too. 


9-If you could apply make to any famous person/celebrity who would it be and why? I have 2. Tilda Swinton! Her face can be totally transformed with makeup and I love that! I would love to watch Sophia Loren apply her makeup because she is the cat eye queen and it would be fascinating to see her do it!
